New Quality
Control Format Checking in WarnGen
This page is featured as a quick highlight to some
of the background material about the new quality control (QC)
features for checking WarnGen product formatting in AWIPS OB
3.1. For AWIPS focal points needing more detailed information about
the new QC features
and
how to
utilize
them, try FSL's
migration, testing, and training issues for OB 3.1 WarnGen site.
-
The more rigorous version of the quality control (QC) feature for WarnGen in AWIPS OB 3.1 now is turned on regardless of VTEC status. This action is different from previous versions of WarnGen were the level of QC performed was dependent upon whether VTEC was activated or not.
- The status of VTEC can be determined by viewing two files in the nationalData directory: warnGenVTEC.mode and textQC.config.
- The contents of textQC.config now allow for a variety of modes of VTEC operation, including experimental, operational, transition to experimental, and transition to operational. The meaning of some of these modes are as follows
- Transition state - if a product is issued without VTEC, WarnGen will attempt to add VTEC to followup products for that product.
- Experimental state - Any VTEC lines that appear will begin with a "/X".
- Operational state - Any VTEC lines that appear will begin with a "/O".
- If you can load a product in a Text Window, Enter Editor,
and Enter the product (via the AWIPS Header Block dialog) without
a dialog warning box appearing, then the template you used
to create the product is correctly formatted in terms of VTEC
and UGC
- If a warning does appear, it will
contain a description of the suspected error that was detected
- It is recommended that each product
template in WarnGen be tested in this manner before and after
and local customization
- It is possible for a warning to appear
even if the product template contains no errors if, for instance,
the WMO ids are incorrect in the localization files
- Much of the problems that could possibly occur in 4c should be fixed in AWIPS OB 3.1. The patch now takes into account for different CCC's and XXX's in WarnGen templates.
