Setting Up VISITview

• Setting Up Your PC

  • Setting up your PC is even easier than before...
  • Minimum PC Requirements:166 MHz CPU, More than 64 MB RAM, 60 MB hard drive space available.
  • Screen Resolution:It is best to use a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. This is due to the size of the graphics in the presentations (800 x 600 pixels). If you choose to use a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, you will be unable to advance slides in visitlocal (backup) mode.
  • NO Additional PROGRAMS Running!VISITview will perform best if you close all programs before starting VISITview.

Presentation

• To download the file, simply click on the link above. The file is an "executable" zip file. If your browser attempts to open the file instead of downloading it, right click on the link and choose the "Save Target As..." (or equivalent) option.
• Save the file to the c:\lessons\ORPG directory. (You may have to create this directory first.
• Note: The file is also on the WDTB FTP Server. Using FTP may provide a faster download.
• Execute the file, from within it's target directory (c:\lessons\ORPG\) and the presentation files will be extracted into the directory. You will be presented with a dialog box like this:
  

  Note that the "Target Directory" will be the current directory by default. If you place the "exe file" in the desired location for the presentation (c:\lessons\scan2\), you simply press the "Extract" button and you are done.

Student Guide

Pre-Session Events

1. Download and install the presentation.
2. Close all programs.
3. Your speaker phone should be near your PC.
4. Test your setup and Internet connection. We have prepared a good test presentation for you! See the Test Hookup Page!
5. Check your email on the Thursday the week prior to the session. WDTB will be sending out an email describing the procedures for the telephone conference call!
6. 15 Minutes prior to the conference, dial into the telephone conference call.
7. Start visit.bat and sign in with your office identifier.
8. Your instructor will give you more detailed instructions if the ROC (Radar Operations Center, formerly OSF) VISITview server is down.

One other item of note. For convenience, we also included a copy of the presentation and student guide on the Open RPG CD-ROM that is being shipped to the offices. Before copying the presentation from the CD-ROM to your teletraining platform, please check the web page for possible updates.
