Description
The content will focus on putting together strategies which will allow the decision maker to make the best use of their skills and those of the warning team. This will include a discussion on the value of expertise, the ways in which expertise can be developed, and what expertise looks like among NWS warning forecasters . One of the primary ways in which expertise can be developed is via post event evaluations. Ways in which these evaluations can be effectively and efficiently accomplished will be presented. Examples of the uses and applications of expert strategies during significantl events will be presented.

Lesson 2: Cognitive Task Analysis of Expert Warning Forecasters
Description
Following the discussion of expertise in general, this lesson will look at expertise in the domain of NWS warning forecasters. Results of a study (the Cognitive Task Analysis) which looked at several NWS expert warning forecasters will be presented. These results will present commonalities in how these experts view and do their job.

Lesson 3: Learning from Post-mortems
Description
Lesson 3 will be presented in a live, scheduled teletraining session. The lesson will present a discussion on the process and benefits of routinely performing local event assessments, or post-mortems. One of the major benefits of performing routine post-mortems is the effect in has on developing expertise. Some pitfalls to avoid when doing these assessments will be given. The value of creating a database from these assessments will be presented. An online template for doing quick post-mortems will be demonstrated and used for exercises. In addition a discussion of root cause analysis as well as some examples from the warning domain will be shared.

Lesson 4: Significant Event management: Planning, Strategy, Expertise, and Innovation
Description
Lesson 4 looks at actual signifcant events and how planning, strategy, expertise and innovation played a role. Even though the events presented are both meteorological and man-made in nature, the response of the forecast office requires the same type of process. Guest instructors Dave Andra (SOO WFO Norman) and Bill Bunting (MIC Fort Worth) will present.
