AWOC Errata Page

Purpose

The purpose of this errata page is to inform AWOC students of any updates that have been made to AWOC lessons since it's initial release. As we have been informed about lessons that needed updating (for errors, clarification, etc.), we have updated the lessons in the LMS. However, we know that some students are using the versions of the lessons that were sent out on CD, or viewed the lessons prior to the updates being made. This page will be a way for those students to know that changes have been implemented.

Errata (by Instructional Component and Lesson)

IC Severe 1, Lesson 1 (Supercell Tornadic Storms):
(12-7-04) - Audio and speaker notes changed because of an error in stating the relationship from the chart. The chart shown on slide 41,  from Craven and Brooks (2002) shows a smoothed probability of a tornado as a function of LCL height (m) and 0-1 km shear. The data were obtained from observed 1800 LST soundings on the condition that CAPE was present. The results are based on 20 yrs. of climatological data. The graph indicates the following relationship: tornado likelihood greatly increases as 0-1 km shear increases AND LCL height decreases.

IC Severe 1, Lesson 2 (Squall Line Tornadic Storms):
(12-21-04) - Audio, speaker notes, and slides for slides 11-12 were modified to discuss the conceptual model presented by Weisman and Trapp (2003).

IC Severe 1, Lesson 3 (Hail Storms):
(12-1-04) - The page was updated due to some bad links and some corrections to the actual amount of vertical wind shear listed in the soundings.

IC Severe 2, Lesson 3 (Updraft Persistence):
(12-22-04) - On slide 7 the audio and speaker notes state that the RUC sounding shown is from Pontiac, MI. It is actually from Pontiac, IL.

IC Severe 3-IV-A (FFG Modification):
(2/16/05) - Due to the poor quality of the recordings, Paul Schlatter's re-recorded all of Bob's slides, almost exactly word for word. Additionally, slide 24 is new; a slide giving guidance of how to apply the FFGMOD technique in any WFO was added.

IC Severe 3-IV-B (FFMP Usage):
(2-7-05) - There were 2 modifications. The talking points were reworded on slide 19. Also, slide 25 was fixed so that the correct FFG error source slide is in place instead of a duplicate summary slide.

IC Severe 3-V-B (VIL and VIL Density):
(12-3-04) - A slide was added as a literature review of local offices that had done VIL density studies.  Narration was modified on approx. 4 slides to accurately convey our message.
