RDA - Antenna: Operational Modes

In addition to Volume Coverage Patterns (VCPs), the WSR-88D has two operational modes which play a part in antenna positioning: Precipitation mode (mode A) and Clear Air mode (mode B). The mode in which the radar operates will determine which VCPs can be used. These modes are:
- Mode A (Precipitation) - Uses VCP 11, 12, 21, 121, 211, 212, or 221 and
- Mode B (Clear Air) - Uses either VCP 31 or 32.
More information on operational modes will be presented in DLOC Topic 3, Lesson 1.
