DLOC Workshop AWIPS Procedures

DLOC students who wish to obtain all the procedures they used while in the DLOC workshop lab in Norman, can do so on this webpage!  Follow the instructions below on how to download the procedures and get them working at your local office.

1.  Seek assistance from your ITO or SOO about where and how to download these procedures.  Putting them on your real-time workstations will be in a different directory than the correct one on your WES machine(s).  Either way, to ensure that no harm is done to the WES machine(s) or the real-time workstations, seek the help of your SOO or ITO first before proceeding further.

2.  Once you have the okay and assistance from your ITO or SOO, download this file to the location where the directory ~/userPrefs/[your_username] is located, i.e. /awips/fxa/data/userPrefs/pschlatter/

3.  Once the file is downloaded inside your username directory, untar and unzip the files using the command tar -zxvf DLOCFY08_UserPrefs.tar.gz

4.  The procedure sets NAM_UA, NAM_NSE, LAPS_NSE, RUC_UA, RUC_NSE, and SAT_METARS should work right out of the box unless your local AWIPS is missing some of the customized volume browser entries that we use in the Lab, although this is unlikely.  The procedure set Radar_KPBZ will have to be modified for your dedicated radar(s), as discussed next in step #5.

5.  If you want the radar procedures to work for your local radar(s), this too can be done:
    a.  In AWIPS D-2D logged in as yourself, open up the Radar_KPBZ set of procedures.
    b.  Highlight a procedure of interest that you wish to convert to your dedicated radar(s)
    c.  Click the button "Alter" from the procedures GUI
    d.  In the "Alter Bundle on Loading" GUI, choose your radar of interest from the dropdown menu, then click "Load"
     e.  The procedure should properly load your radar with all the same map backgrounds that were used in the DLOC lab other than urban boundaries which was customized for each case in the lab and you won't have access to it locally.  Your local office may have its own urban boundaries map background that you could overlay on this pane.  If you want urban boundaries in your final procedure, overlay it now before moving onto the next step.
    f.  The last step is to create a new set of radar procedures for yourself, then from the pane you just loaded, click the "copy in" button from your newly created procedure set GUI and save the set.  You'll have to do this for each of the procedures from Radar_KPBZ if you want to use any of them permanently for your dedicated radar(s).
