Dual Polarization Technology Training Page
The upgrade to dual polarization technology for the entire fleet of WSR-88Ds begins in the 2nd half of 2010. For berevity, we refer to this technology as "dual-pol" throughout the training modules and any supplemental training material we release. We at WDTB will have training ready for the beta test sites and their backups in April 2010 and for all other offices a few months prior to the start of the full deployment phase, tentatively scheduled for Aug 2010. A year after the first upgrades (Aug/Sep 2011) we'll relase part 2 of the ops course, which will include more applications of dual-pol and simulations. Below is the tentative schedule, current dual-pol training schedule as of September 2009:

Notice that we will be releasing 2 courses in 2010...one (Outreach Course) geared towards Emergency Managers, Media, and the general public, and the other (Operations Course) specifically for all NWS forecasters.
Training Opportunities Prior to the Release of the Opertaions and Outreach Course
There are 5 modules available which were produced from a 90 minute presentation given to the Wichita, KS WFO in 2007. Though the examples are outdated, they nevertheless provide a good overview of the basics of dual-pol. If you are an NWS user, please go through the NWS e-learning site to take these.
These are articulate presenter modules, so please turn off pop up blockers. It is recommended that you use Internet Explorer with the Flash ver. 8 plugin. If you do not have the plugin, you can get it here.
